DEADLINE: 22nd August 2021

Byzanfest accepts short and feature-length films.

Short-films will be broadcast via Byzanfest’s YouTube channel.

Feature-length films will be uploaded to Vimeo where audiences can pay-to-view with an online rental period of 24 hours. The film will be made available for 9 days, the duration of the Festival. Revenue will be split 60/40 between the filmmaker and Byzanfest. All international transaction and 3rd-party fees will be deducted before receiving final payment. Filmmaker will receive payment in $USD via Paypal.

If the Festival does not receive enough feature-length submissions, those entry fees will be refunded.

The person who submits the film(s) will be known as the ‘Contact Person’. The Contact Person is solely responsible for ensuring the film complies with all domestic and international copyright laws. This is not Byzanfest’s responsibility.

Byzanfest is looking for films that express Eastern Orthodox Christian themes, beliefs, culture and/or values. An entry’s storyline does not necessarily have to be directly religious or spiritual.

A film is deemed "Orthodox" because:
1) it was created by an Orthodox Christian filmmaker who maintained an Orthodox phronema during the creative process, or

2) the subject matter/plot is about Orthodox spirituality, of which the filmmaker does not have to be an Orthodox Christian.

Byzanfest is open to professional, amateur and student filmmakers. There is no age limit.
Up to 3 films can be submitted. Each film requires payment of a separate entry fee.

If the film’s spoken language is not English, it MUST contain English subtitles which are hard-embedded in both short and feature-length submissions. Any other languages are to be provided as SRT. files.

There is NO requirement this needs to be the film’s première. It can previously been broadcast or screened at other festivals.

Film must have been made during 2016 - 2021.

In additional to entry, the Festival requires three (3) film-stills and director’s profile photo.

Each submission will undergo a preliminary round of judging. A short-list will be drafted and another screening will determine the final program. If successful, the Contact Person will be notified.

If an entry contains material that is deemed discriminatory or offensive to any group of persons and/or generally distasteful, it will not be selected. Discretion will be used during the judging and selection processes.

The film will be uploaded to YouTube (short-film) or Vimeo (feature-length) it must be in a supported format. Accepted formats include: MOV, MPEG4, WMV or AVI.

The video codec must be H.264

Preferred video resolution: 1080p or higher

Byzanfest prefers films in 16:9 aspect ratio. If the film was shot in 3:4 or a different ratio it may be broadcasted on YouTube with pillarbox or letterbox bars. To avoid this please format film to 16:9 aspect ratio.
By completing Entry Form, the Contact Person agrees to all the Festival’s terms & conditions, granting the Byzanfest permission to broadcast their film(s).

The Contact Person also grants Byzanfest permission to use film stills submitted for publicity purposes. Images from the film(s) and additional photographs may be reproduced and/or broadcast on the Festival’s website, associated websites and/or media outlets.
